elon

I know Elon isn’t on this graph.. yet. But with a strong alumni class from 2016, and great great great teachers… (i’m envisioning a speech along the lines of Braveheart and the movie 300). THEY CAN NEVER TAKE…. MY JD!!!

Alas, as I near the 1/3 mark, I can only hold onto my glasses and keep reading. And I head off to the land that flows with ink and highlighter. The library.

Moveable_chord_charts

Gotta love the legal pun.

This is more of a note to self; I’ll compile a list of great youtube videos, websites, pictures, ect to help me learn barre chords.

Everyday the muscle memory is improving and it really only takes a few dozen a day to see improvement.

My next step is to learn what chords I’m hitting in the E and A position as I go down the neck. And try to really get a slide motion going.

Easy Guitar Song: Chasing Cars

This is the second song I’m trying to learn in addition to Leaving on a jet plane.
Very easy intro and only 3 chords for the chorus: A, Eminor, and Dsus2.

Thank you Gandalf for helping me practice this song!
In about a week, I’ll post a user video of my best attempt to replicate this.

Occupy Zoo-street

Ted Talk.. real interesting experiment. Inequality.
If monkey’s can get this furious about inequality, i can see how infuriating it may seem that a man no smarted than your average joe can earn more than hundreds of thousands of his smarter peers combined.

And dont even get me started on golden parachutes. Id hate to see what would happen if one of those monkeys were given a bowl of grapes, while the other had to do 50 tasks for just 1.

Free Guitar Lessons

Free Guitar Lessons: Jules and everyone that plays guitar.. check out this great cite if you haven’t found it already

In between reading case law, memorizing common law, and making flow charts on giant post-it notes… I have taken up the guitar as a one of my many long term goals, that are better started sooner rather than later.

backpacker

i got the A, G, C, D, E, a few of the minors and just started playing around with barre chords. The first rift I learned this past week was leaving on a jet plane. My chord transitions are getting quicker, but my strumming and timing is pretty bad. I should download a metronome app or just actually truly spend 15 minutes a day practicing. Sometime i can go weeks without playing, but after buying two cheap tuners from the local music store, I no longer have the excuse of not being able to get the iphone app to function properly.

I also got a drum pad and some sticks but I honestly only learned one paradiddle or something.. i can buzz them but I really havent used them too much. The reason being most likely that I no longer do a bulk of my reading on the couch anymore and the drum pad and guitar were always in close proximity to the coffee table.
Drum Pad

Goals for next week, but most likely for most of this summer: Learn more songs, understand the circle of fifths, learn a few other drum exercises, and practice daily. Videos of my progression to follow… Your comments, suggestions, advice, criticism.. will all be greatly appreciated. Also.. if anyone in the greensboro area wants to make a few extra bucks and teach lessons, versus me going to the local music store and making an appointment.

Law School Humor: Part 1L

Criminal Law Class Discussion on Cannibalism
Jules: “Really changes the meaning of the word Male-nourishment.”

Welcome to the Book of Jules. It will be used as kinda place to store what are alternatively called Jules-isms. Comments I make that tend to go to a dollar in the bad joke jar. This may also include lyrics to parodies I write, poems, screenplays, anything and everything me.

Some other memorable one’s from my 1L year.

Teacher: Chris Christie was acting like he had won the presidency last night.

Jules: Oh you mean Christie Creme, President of Weight Watchers?

__________

Topic in Contracts was Peerless v Peerless (two ships with the same)- court voided the contract because of a clear mistake/misunderstanding

XKCD Comic

gotta love this weekly comic. especially after having to write one of my first ever law school briefs on the subject of being a LPPF. If you dont know what that means.. google it.

But… I would like to share some puns I had for that assignment. The controversy was over a proposed Lowes store entering a town.. and I naturally starting thinking of funny titles that I could use for the assignment header… I came up with… Lowes Writer (zz top reference) and Lowe on the Range.. non-actually made the final draft, since I am learning when and where to be colorful with my humor… although my last paper did have a little flair that I failed to resist that impulse.

I have to admit, I came up with that slogan on the treadmill while the game was in action, just ask Gonzalo.

So apparently Sports writer Jon Heyman and I have a similar appreciation for puns.. since his article this morning, along with his tweet of pinehead/pinhead Pineda.. is the same thing I thought I so cleverly coined. Just goes to show that either I have to become more active on twitter, or I should really make these posts more proximate to when I’m feeling silly-punny.

His article can be found in the link below. This first link i posted offers the dialogue of the players and managers after the game.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24537885/the-yankees-pine-tar-pinhead-outdoes-himself-this-time

I have to admit, that who ever wrote MLB.com’s headline of “Tar Wars”… pure genius. I was actually angry that I hadn’t thought of that one too.

Thoughts: First, I was super happy to see Farrell argue it in the middle of an at bat, early in the game, ultimately maybe affecting the yankee pitching staff and bullpen for weeks. And then.. naturally.. thoughts of Clay and Lester having similar habits did require me to second guess my jubilation. However, the Yanks did not challenge any of our pitches that night.. even for semantic reasons.. no one was thrown at, I thought we had entered a mlb blitz scenario, but the only thing classy was the fact that nothing else happened.

Second, Its time for a rule change. if this is an unspoken rule of.. don’t be an idiot, but everyone does it.. or some variation of it like sunscreen and rosin. However, I do understand the slippery slop argument of what changing a rule like that could result in. And I dont blame Pineda for trying. In the midst of a career resurrection… where a strong season could make you tyler perry money.. its unfortunate for him, since obviously he was warned by his coaching staff prior to the game.. and it seems odd the CC or someone else could have should him where on his belt or ass crack to put the shit away from the view of HD cameras.

What really felt bad was the 3 seconds of footage of the dugout camera of Pineda before it was rightfully turned away. He got his 10 game suspension today, so he’ll be skipped in the rotation twice, which is significant since Nova is now out for the season.

Part of me wishes Farrell ignored it, since the purpose is only to get a better grip, and I hate seeing Clay flounder without it. But he really had no choice and it was a smart managerial move.

Plus.. as a Sox fan.. a lot of other more pressing issue than to make fun of a rival that is currently ahead of you in the standings.

Future conversations will include:

1) Nava’s demotion

2) Sizemore’s role

3) Lester’s contract

4) How to integrate our young prospects.
