Nollaig na mBan at Windmill Lane

Join us for a celebration of Nollaig na mBan on the 6th of January at the iconic Windmill Lane Recording studios for an extraordinary showcase of past, rising and established female musicians.

Our 12,000 sq. ft. art deco building, will be flooded with images and performances of leading Irish female talent and will showcase some of the outstanding female artists who have recorded in these world-famous studios.

Featuring a spine-tingling afternoon and evening performances in the iconic studios, guests will not only be treated to exciting new music by female artists but can also wander the corridors where the walls are adorned with Grammys of iconic recording artists who have recorded here.

Steve Osborne Masterclass at Windmill Lane Recording Studios in Dublin

World famous and multi-platinum selling producer and mixer, Steve Osborne, visited us and delivered a Masterclass to the Music Production and Music Technology Degree and Diploma students from Pulse College.

Steve began his career in the 90’s dance scene as part of one of the most legendary remix teams with Paul Oakenfold, working with amazing artists including Massive Attack and The Happy Mondays. Steve then segwayed into recording studios, engineering and producing for acts such as U2, Elbow, Doves, Suede, Placebo, KT Tunstall, PJ Harvey and Gregory Porter.

Steve took the students at Pulse College through the process of producing and mixing a track for mainstream daytime Radio. Steve was employed by Decca Records A&R team to take the jazz recording ‘Hey Laura’ by Gregory Porter and remix it with the aim to get the track on the “A” playlist for BBC Radio 2. The stems given to Steve by Decca were analysed and discussed with the students, while Steve demonstrated his editing techniques in Protools (based Beat Detective and Tempo analysis) of how to take a free-time live recording and hard quantise the tracks to the Protools grid in preparation for his production and remix.

Gavin James Dropped into Studio 1!

Gavin James Dropped into Studio 1!

Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James recently dropped into Studio 1 here at Windmill Lane Recording Studios and gave us a few verses from his massive hit Always! Gavin is an amazing songwriter and won the Choice Music Award Song of the Year for Bitter Pill in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

He began working on his debut album back in 2015 with producers Fraser T. Smith and Cam Blackwood. These guys have worked with some of the biggest artists in the industry: Adele, Stormzy, Sam Smith, George Ezra, Florence and the Machine……. So it’s not surprising that Bitter Pill went down so well with the public upon its release.

The past few years have been a whirlwind for James touring right across the world, performing to a global audience of over one million people.

In 2018 James released the single “Always” from his second album Only Ticket Home which has reached over 50 Million streams to date and is now platinum in several countries including a No.1 in Brazil and is one of the top 100 Shazamed songs in the world.

We can’t wait to hear more new material from Gavin but until then here’s a little clip of him trying out our grand piano……

Westlife at Windmill Lane Recording Studios

Westlife are back with a bang and their new single “Better Man” hit the top of the Irish Spotify and ITunes charts only one day after its release. Better Man, is the second single from the band’s 11st studio album, was written by Ed Sheeran, Fred Gibson and Steve Mac and the video was filmed here at Windmill Lane Recording Studios. Lochlainn McKenna did a wonderful job directing the video.

The official video premiered on Westlife’s You Tube and Vevo accounts on the 29^th March 2019 and has been a huge global success since its release.

We want to wish the band every success with their latest release and up coming tour. For anyone who’s been lucky enough to get their hands on a ticket we know it’s going to be a super show!

30 Years Ago Windmill Lane Recording Studios Installed an Amek G2520

30 years ago, February 1989, Windmill Lane Recording Studios installed an Amek G2520, later to be replaced with a 72 – channel Neve Console that still takes pride of place in the control room.

These wonderful pictures were posted by Terry Cromer. Terry is a true industry pro, and an expert in so many facets of the audio industry. From studio design and music recording to audio post production, Terry has been an exemplar of our industry. He also makes fantastic guitars!!
